The park covers an area of 968 square kilometers and is home to 85 adult tigers, 41 one-horned rhinos, and more than 120 wild elephants. Many other animals also live in the park.

The park is home to tigers, rhinos, crocodiles, dolphins and other animals. There are 887 species of birds in Nepal and 527 species in Bardiya.

Thakurdwara has three dozen hotels and resorts. The then-British Prince Harry visited the community homestay on March 21, 2016. Homestay facility is available in 22 houses of Suryapatua rural municipality-4.
