The hidden and remote trekking trail in the heart of Buddhist and Bon Po believers is the trek of Lower-Dolpo. It is a combination of natural and cultural diversity, adventure high passes, and the pristine Lake. You can observe the strong Tibetan influence and religious way of life during the trek. It is an opportunity to discover the spiritualism and religious way of life of Tibetan culture.

12-day trekking after crossing mountain passes of  Numa La and Baga La passes and reaching the magical freshwater lake is a dream come true to many trekkers. Itinerary - Day by day

Day 1. Arrival in Kathmandu Airport

Arrival in Kathmandu Airport and welcomed by a guide at the airport. Transfer to the hotel where the guide would brief the trekking program. You may have some time, depending upon your time of arrival, to explore areas near to the hotel.

Day 2. Nepalgunj

Transfer to Kathmandu Airport for a flight to Nepalgunj.
Nepalgunj, a hot western city in Nepal, shares an international border with India. Stay in Nepalgunj.

Day 3. Juphal-Dunai

A 45-minutes flight to Dolpa airport in Juphal. You are welcomed by the green hill and rich vegetation around. Descent a bit, meet with the trekking team and receive the briefing about the trek.

We begin the trek with a gentle descent through the villages and reach to the river of Thuli Bheri and along with the river to Dunai. Apple farms and walnut trees are seen on the way. Dunai is the administrative headquarter of Dolpa. Lunch in Dunai and preparation for the next day.

Day 4. Tarakot

Ascending trail along the Thuli Bheri and several smaller villages crossing the rivers a few times to Tarakot. We will see the herd of mules, horses, and yaks on the way. Stay in Tatakot.

Day 5. Laini Odar

An easy day of the trek through dense mixed forest and gentle ascent to Laini Odar. After lunch, we turn left to the small river of Tarap Khola. We trek along the river to Laini Odar. It is a place for a drinks break. We camp in Laini Odar. It is a remote, less trekked, and unspoiled trek.

Day 6. Nawar Pani

Gentle ascent and easy trail along the river Tarap. Cross the bridge a couple of times. Trek to Nawar Pani (Pibuk) over the narrow trail.

For the first couple of days, we will not be able to see a lot of mountains and landscapes but after it, the valley opens wide and we begin to see villages and farming.

Day 7. Dho Tarap

Trek along the stream Tarak on a narrow valley. After reaching Dho Tarap, the valley opens wide. We reach Dho Tarap. It is a big village with a Tibetan influence.

Day 8. Dho Tarap

A morning of rest, have a shower, and wash clothes. After lunch, we visit a monastery and try to mix with people doing their daily life. The reason to rest here is to acclimatize for the next day. It is a place to start trekking to four different routes.

Day 9. Numa La Base Camp

An easy flat trail through village farms passing several chhortens would take us to a school supported by French nationals and has a good building in such a remote location. Continue flat walking up to the point for lunch. After lunch, gradually ascend for a couple of hours to reach Numa La Base Camp.

Day 10. Numala Pass-Baga La Base Camp

We begin the trek early to cross the pass. Gentle ascend for a few hours to reach Numa La Pass. We carry the packed lunch today. We see Lungta (prayer wheels) on the pass. We descend for a few hours, cross a stream, and reach Baga La Valley. We camp Baga La Base Camp at a plain field near a stream. We see two mountains of Norbung Gang (6,085 m) and Chyarko Dingla (5,892 m) in front of us. Stay in Baga La Base Camp.

Day 11. Baga La Pass-Yak Kharka

Easy walking on plain land and gentle ascent to reach Baga La Pass. We have a packed lunch today as well. We see Kanjirowa and other mountains. Prayer wheels are seen on the top of the pass. We see a long range of landscapes. We descent for a few hours and find a nice place to open our packed lunch.

After lunch, we turn right for a couple of hours to reach to Campsite of Yak Kharka. It is a place for yak and animal shed.

Day 12. Phoksundo Lake-Ringmo

A bit of descent to start the trek passing through the juniper and rhododendron forest to reach a viewpoint to see the valley. We can also hear the sound of a waterfall nearby falling from Lake Phoksundo. We may see a part of the waterfall if we explore. Trek further through a mixed forest of pine, juniper, and rhododendron forest in a few hours and cross the Phoksundo Khola and reach Ringmo where we camp for an overnight edge the turquoise lake.
Phoksundo is a large alpine freshwater lake in north-western Nepal.

We cross the stream to visit a Bon monastery and return to camp.

Day 13. Chhepka

Easy trail to begin and then descent to reach a viewpoint where we see Phoksundo Waterfall. Trek down for a couple of hours to reach to a plain area on a narrow valley on the stream bed. Trek along the river through the big forest of juniper and pine with larger trees. We reach Renchi for lunch and trek down along the stream to Chhepka. Overnight in Chhepka. A few houses settlement at a narrow river bed.

Day 14. Dunai-Juphal

Trek following the Phoksundo River up to Suli Ghat. Suli Ghat is the confluence of two rivers Thuli Bheri and Phoksundo. Trek back the same way to Juphal to complet the trek. Stay in Juphal.

A dinner is planned to celebrate the trekking success with your team and to thank all members of the trekking team. You may offer to leave the trekking gears you don’t need to your trekking team. It may be a generous gesture to those who cannot afford such gears.

Day 15. Kathmandu

Flyback after breakfast to Nepalgunj and fly back to Kathmandu during the day.

Options for sightseeing to World Heritage Sites/ayurvedic massage or rest in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu Valley has, perhaps, the densest concentration of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Seven UNESCO WHS of Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Boudhha, Pashupati, Patan Durbar Square, Swoyambhu, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Changu Narayan Temple are framed within 400 sq km. For a full day tour exploring three UNESCO WHS are comfortably possible. For example, you may choose Bhaktapur Durbar Square (a medieval city square), Pashupati (the holiest Hindu temple) and Bouddha (a Buddhist stupa) for a smart mix of culture and architecture with two major religious (Buddhism and Hinduism) sites of Nepal.


Day 17. Back to Home
